About Poodles in Scandinavia

Angelview Angel, a beautiful poodle representing the Nordic breeding tradition
Angelview Angel — a testament to the quality and beauty of Scandinavian-bred poodles that this site celebrates.

Our Story

Poodles in Scandinavia was founded in 2002 by a small group of dedicated poodle enthusiasts from across the Nordic countries who shared a common vision: to create an online resource that would celebrate the poodle breed in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, and to connect the diverse but geographically dispersed community of Scandinavian poodle breeders, exhibitors, and owners.

In the early 2000s, the internet was beginning to transform how dog enthusiasts communicated and shared information, but there was no central online resource dedicated to the Scandinavian poodle community. Individual breeders maintained their own kennel websites, and the national breed clubs provided breed-specific information within their respective countries, but there was no platform that brought the broader Nordic poodle world together in one place.

Poodles in Scandinavia was created to fill that gap. From our first simple pages, which featured breeder profiles and show result summaries, the site has grown into a comprehensive resource covering every aspect of poodle life in the Nordic countries, from breed education and health testing information to grooming guides, show coverage, and kennel directories.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote and celebrate the poodle breed across the Scandinavian countries by providing accurate, comprehensive, and accessible information for breeders, exhibitors, and poodle owners at all levels of experience. We believe that informed owners make better decisions, and that the free exchange of knowledge strengthens the entire breeding community.

Specifically, we aim to:

  • Provide educational content about all four poodle size varieties, their characteristics, and their specific care requirements.
  • Promote responsible breeding practices, including comprehensive health testing and attention to genetic diversity.
  • Document and celebrate the achievements of Scandinavian poodles and their breeders in the show ring and performance events.
  • Connect prospective puppy buyers with reputable, health-testing breeders across the Nordic countries.
  • Foster communication and collaboration among poodle enthusiasts across national borders within Scandinavia.

The Scandinavian Poodle Community

The poodle holds a special place in the dog culture of the Nordic countries. Across Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, the breed is consistently among the most popular pedigree dogs, valued for its intelligence, versatility, and the hypoallergenic qualities of its non-shedding coat. The Scandinavian poodle community encompasses a wide range of participants, from serious breeders and show exhibitors to dedicated companion owners and performance enthusiasts.

What unites this community is a shared respect for the breed and a commitment to maintaining its quality. The Nordic kennel clubs have established some of the most comprehensive breeding regulations in the world, and the Scandinavian tradition of open health databases and transparent record-keeping creates a culture of accountability that benefits the breed as a whole. We are proud to be a part of this community and to contribute to its traditions through our work on this site.

Our Team

Poodles in Scandinavia is maintained by a volunteer team of poodle enthusiasts drawn from across the Nordic countries. Our contributors include active breeders, show judges, veterinary professionals, and performance competitors, all of whom bring their expertise and passion to the content we produce. While we are based primarily in Denmark, our contributors and readers span all four Scandinavian countries and beyond.

We are not affiliated with any individual kennel, breed club, or commercial enterprise. Our content is produced independently, and our recommendations and opinions are based solely on our collective experience and knowledge of the breed. We do not accept payment for editorial content, and any commercial relationships are clearly disclosed.

Two Decades of Service

Over the past two decades, Poodles in Scandinavia has evolved alongside the breed and the community we serve. We have covered the introduction of new DNA tests that have transformed breeding practices, documented the rise of new color varieties and size categories, reported on changes in show regulations and breeding guidelines, and profiled countless dogs and breeders who have shaped the Scandinavian poodle world.

We have also witnessed and participated in the broader changes in how dog communities communicate and share information. From the static HTML pages of our early years to the richer multimedia content we produce today, we have always aimed to present our content in a way that is accessible, informative, and useful to our readers.

As we look to the future, our commitment to the Scandinavian poodle community remains as strong as it was when we published our first page in 2002. We will continue to provide the breed education, health information, show coverage, and community connection that have defined our site for two decades. Thank you for being part of our journey, and we look forward to many more years of celebrating the poodle breed across Scandinavia.
